Erik Isakson

Photography + Videography Expert

Photography has always been a large part of Erik Isakson’s life. Born and raised in Wichita, Kansas, Erik was first introduced to photography at the age of 11 when he received a free camera with his Sports Illustrated subscription. He took his camera to SeaWorld to snap pictures of Shamu on a family vacation and the rest was history. From then on, he knew that he would pursue a career in photography. Little did he know that it would lead him to work with numerous professional athletes throughout the years including p1440’s very own Kerri Walsh Jennings. Today, Erik is one of p1440’s photographers, joining the team in capturing action shots and headshots at tournaments.

While working towards a degree in photography and a minor in business at Brigham Young University, Erik interned with a notable Hollywood photographer, which ultimately intensified his passion for photographing professional athletes and shaped his career into what it is today. His love of sports and outdoor activities, combined with his experience in photography, led him to gravitate towards sports lifestyle imagery.

Throughout his professional career, Erik has worked with several reputable companies to elevate their brand through powerful imagery. He’s worked with companies like Budweiser, Modelo, ESPN and Sports Illustrated. He’s also shot multiple professional athletes, including American soccer player and Olympic gold medalist, Alex Morgan; baseball star, Andrew McCutchen and pro surfer, Damien Hobgood.

His ability to capture athlete’s movements and active lifestyle shots makes Erik a perfect fit for the p1440 team. Around three years ago, Erik met Kerri when he was contracted to take pictures of her for a KT Tape ad campaign. The day consisted of shots of Kerri practicing on the beach, portrait shots in a local studio and sunset action shots. Soon after, Erik joined the p1440 team to photograph various p1440 tournaments. He was instantly drawn to how p1440 athletes come together to not only compete, but to support one another throughout the thrilling season and beyond.

As a commercial photographer, he takes every project as an opportunity to learn from creative challenges that may arise and to grow. After graduating from college, Erik worked for an LA based photographer who provided him with valuable advice that he would carry with him for years to come. He said “Erik, come to me with solutions, not problems.” This piece of advice has been a key for Erik’s success and has impacted his life both professionally and personally.

When he’s not shooting with his favorite Nikon D5 camera, Erik enjoys spending time with his family and engaging in outdoor activities such as hiking, snowboarding, river rafting and paddle boarding.
