This Week in Beach Volleyball: World Tour Season Comes to a Close in Rome
This is it. One final trip around the world. One last — for the men — crack at Anders Mol and Christian Sorum. For the women, it’s one last shot to claim the top spot in the world, which has been see-sawing back and forth between a number of teams on a number of continents — Brazil, Canada, Australia, U.S.
Until November’s Four-Star in Mexico, this is the final shot to make a points leap in the Olympic ranks. And even Mexico isn’t that big of an opportunity, given that it’s just a Four-Star. With the 2020 FIVB schedule still yet to come out, it’s also possible that this is the final Major prior to the Tokyo Games, putting that much more emphasis on a good finish for the teams in contention.
So what we’re saying is this: Rome is really, really important.
