This Week in Beach Volleyball: U.S. Looks to Stay Hot in Ostrava
Aside from a major domestic tournament, last week featured just about everything one could have asked for when it comes to beach volleyball. We had a high-stakes FIVB with a four-star in Jinjiang, China, won by Kerri Walsh Jennings and Brooke Sweat — the second consecutive FIVB to be won by an American women’s team.
We had a windy international qualifier, won by Karissa Cook and Jace Pardon and Mark Burik and Ian Satterfield, who earned spots into the 2019 Pan American Games, to be played in Lima, Peru.
We had a fun local tournament, with the annual Memorial Day Four-Man on 16th street. I can’t tell you who won. The finals were played in the dark. But Konas were had, and illegal hand sets were not called, and Nicole Branagh was dishing some Memorial Day sauce for her team.
We had a high-level CBVA, the annual two-day Hermosa Open, which featured somewhere around 70 teams between the men and women. And we’re about to have more of it all.
Here’s what’s happening this week in beach volleyball:
