This Week in Beach Volleyball: AVP Returns to Hermosa, FIVB Heads to Tokyo for Olympic Test

This is, deceptively, one of the most exciting weeks of the 2019 beach volleyball calendar. After a month-long sabbatical, the AVP is back, at one of the finest stops on tour in Hermosa Beach, a big-draw with 24 teams and one of the best fanbases in the beach volley world.

The FIVB, meanwhile, won’t be hosting a major, but it will be featuring a close equivalent, as Tokyo puts on an Olympic test event, at the site of the 2020 Olympic Games. It’s not a Five-Star, no, but the field is as good as Gstaad or Hamburg, as most federations are requiring their Olympic hopefuls to attend the Olympic test event.

Meaning this: There’s high-quality, high-stakes beach volleyball everywhere.
