This Week in Beach Volleyball: Americans Look to Continue Podium Streak

Cassie House-Lara Dykstra

The past two weeks were decorated ones for Americans playing overseas. I’d say these decorative finishes came from competing in beach volleyball, but the majority of the medals came in the snow, in Austria and Italy (twice).

A massive congratulations, however, is in order to Cassie House, a former p1440 Developmental Program athlete who didn’t just make her first FIVB podium this past weekend in Cambodia with Lara Dykstra, but did it by taking gold.

The two emerged from the qualifier, dropping only a single set en route to gold. It’s the same color medal earned by Riley and Maddison McKibbin and Troy Field in Kronplatz, Italy, in an FIVB snow volleyball event. The women, meanwhile — Emily Hartong, Allie Wheeler, Karissa Cook, Katie Spieler — who took gold in Moscow in December, followed it up with a silver in Wagrain, Austria two weekends ago and added another silver in Kronplatz on Sunday.

Here’s what’s coming this week in beach volleyball:

2018 has gone by pretty darn quickly for me, but so many positives! God is good! It was the first year I could breathe financially where I could actually put more effort into my passion/sport after about 6 months of a 9-5 job (which is rough on the body). • I learned a skill that could pay me well, and after I proved myself I worked remotely for the remainder of the year and still make the type of money that kept me comfortable which would give me the time and resources to put more energy & effort into what I actually want to do(play volleyball 25/8). • Now money isn’t everything, but it definitely helped me not have to do Uber eats before a tournament or in between practices just so I could eat 🤪🙄 Rough way to live, but it was reality for me. Volleyball + traveling is expensive. But, moving forward this year in this way and many other ways were stepping stones to many greater things. So grateful for the life I get to live. • Off to be a full time athlete/entrepreneur in 2019 😎 I’ve built the foundation now I can focus in on helping others, focus on being the best version of myself and focus on moving forward constantly learning and growing. Let’s do this 🙏🤙✈️ 🌎 🏐🌱✌️❤️😃💰 thanks for being apart of my journey, wishing you all a fantastic 2019! 🎉Life is always getting better 🤪#athletepreneurs #financialfreedom
