p1440 Partners With CBVA for 2019 Season
Professional beach volleyball player and three-time Olympic gold medalist, Kerri Walsh Jennings, and her event series and digital community, p1440, have partnered with the California Beach Volleyball Association (CBVA), the largest amateur beach volleyball association in the United States. This will be the second year p1440 and the CBVA are partnering together to provide more opportunities for up-and-coming beach volleyball players to develop their skills and compete. p1440 will be the presenting sponsor of CBVA’s adult events and the title sponsor for all upcoming CBVA junior events. Throughout the year, p1440 will host special on-site activations at select CBVA tournaments for players and fans to enjoy.
“By partnering with the CBVA, we are able to elevate the game of beach volleyball for players at every level as well as provide the athletes with more opportunities to sharpen the skills they’ll need to play and succeed,” said Walsh Jennings, who is the founder of p1440 and is currently making a push for her sixth Olympic Games. “I am so proud to partner with the CBVA for a second year and work with an organization that also strives to improve beach volleyball for current and future generations. With our unified goal, we will help athletes compete and learn valuable skills, all while earning points that can help them qualify towards competing at p1440’s professional events!”
p1440 and the CBVA will also work together on a points system to give athletes opportunities to participate in p1440’s professional events. CBVA sanctioned open events will allow players to obtain p1440 points to qualify at future p1440 events. p1440 will use CBVA athletes’ best four finishes out of the last six tournaments played to seed teams into p1440 qualifiers and main draws. All athletes will receive points for participating in sanctioned CBVA open division events to go towards qualifying in p1440 events. In addition, CBVA will host p1440 professional qualifiers for p1440’s professional main draw events.
“The CBVA is pleased to have p1440’s continued support. Both groups share many common goals which is the hallmark of a great partnership,” said Chris Brown, president of the CBVA. “The CBVA is proud of being part of the path for many of the greats of our sport. We look forward to complimenting the collective vision that the p1440/CBVA affiliation will provide to aspiring athletes across the beach volleyball landscape.”
With the launch of p1440’s new grassroots initiative, p1440 RISE, a program that offers more opportunities for youth and amateur players to compete through collaborative partnerships, CBVA falls under the sponsorship level. The CBVA will host p1440 RISE qualifiers for p1440’s inaugural RISE Junior National Championships in July — giving junior athletes the opportunity to win bids into the RISE Junior National Championships and compete against the best of the best in beach volleyball from around the nation.
In April p1440 RISE will be giving away free CBVA tournament registration for the entire 2019 season to one junior and one adult player for them and their partner. The contest kicks off on April 1 and ends on April 16.
The p1440 partnership with the CBVA will provide players with more than 240 days of events to compete in, up and down the coast of California including tournaments in Santa Cruz, Santa Barbara, Monterey, Huntington Beach, San Diego and more. Through this collaboration, p1440 will service the game of beach volleyball and help youth, juniors and professional athletes further develop.
