Film Room Friday: Throwback to Taylor Crabb’s Second AVP Victory
Last Sunday afternoon, in Waikiki, Hawai’i, Taylor Crabb and Jake Gibb delivered one of the finest, most thrilling matches of the season. They came back from down 15-20 at the freeze in the finals of AVP Hawai’i to win 18-21, 22-20, 17-15, a frenetic bookend to a phenomenal season.
It was Crabb and Gibb’s fourth victory in six AVP events this season, the most of any team. We figured it was appropriate, then, to throw it back to Crabb and Gibb’s second victory as a team, back in 2017, at Hermosa Beach, where they beat Trevor Crabb and Sean Rosenthal.
The match itself is no less thrilling, a three-set affair in which Rosenthal even lands, as Superman is wont to do, at the No. 2 spot on SportsCenter’s top-10 plays.
More than anything, it served as a harbinger for the dominant season to come from Crabb, the MVP of the AVP in 2018 and likely 2019, and Gibb, the ageless blocker.
