Film Room Friday: Kerri Walsh Jennings, Brooke Sweat Win Bronze at 2018 FIVB Chetumal
The FIVB Chetumal four-star is happening this week, in case you haven’t heard. It’s the final event of the season, as it was a year ago, when the event was a three-star that packed the stands despite a relatively weakened field at the end of the year.
While eight teams are competing in Mexico this weekend for the four-star, we figured it would be appropriate to throw it back to last season’s bronze medal match for the weekly Film Room Friday. In that match, Brooke Sweat and Kerri Walsh Jennings won the first medal of their partnership, a bronze in a hard-fought, come-from-behind win over Canadians Nicole and Megan McNamara, who were still at UCLA at the time.
Walsh Jennings and Sweat would win 16-21, 21-8, 15-10, building momentum for what would become a magnificent 2019 season. They’re still competing in this year’s Chetumal, still seeking a medal of ideally a different color, though podium finishes are always a positive, regardless of tone.
Enjoy this flashback film room Friday, and have a great weekend, all.
